Miscellaneous Self Help

Get Away

Every now and then I get a little stir crazy.  Same old walls, same old halls, same old life.   I haven’t had much in the way of vacations over the past two years.  I am fortunate however to have a buddy that lives on the beach in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY.

There is a recently built boardwalk, a nice stretch of beach and a place to swim complete with life guards after Memorial Day.  I might also add there are local gendarmes (park security) willing and able to kick you off the rocks when you are taking pictures.  We have met.

Walking along the ocean with the sand and the wind and the sound of the waves is my special place.  There is something about the immenseness of the ocean that stretches as far as the eye can see that reminds me how big God really is and that He is in control of every detail of my life and that He knows my every thought, feeling and emotion.  This is where I find peace and solace, where I am best able to think and where my spirit is able reconnect and my soul finds rest.  It is here where I am best able to calm my mind.

I am also able to find this sense of well-being when I am by a mountain stream or lake.  Anywhere there is water and nature is in control works for me.

It doesn’t cost a lot to drive to a place where you can find peace and serenity and you are worth the time.  It will settle you down, help you focus and make you more productive in your daily life.  I pray that you too will take some time for yourself in your special place and experience that peace that passes understanding.
